Rodney Hide (MP)has expressed his views about excluding Maori as having the right to be included in the Auckland "Super" City Council. Maori obviously feel that their voice has been ignored.
Question: What are the main issues surrounding this story?

this has some issues like the maori has been in NZ for along time and they deserve to be apart of what we do and when we do it
ReplyDeletewe also just cant leave them out like this I admit they have done some bad things but mabey if the change was to occer mabey they could appreshiate this and start treating us properly
ReplyDeleteI have heard a saying called treat people how you want to be treated
Why does this man have the chance to say things about the maori community and why has he ignored the maori voice
ReplyDeleteThis is a problem because we took the land from the moari and we haven't given them a fair share of our stuff,
ReplyDeletesome questions I antto ask you guys that see this artical
ReplyDeletedo the public agree
do you agree
does the teacher agree
how much of auckland hate this mans thoughts
If it wern't for the Maori people we probably woundn't be here today so we should let them voice their opininons. Maori owned all of this land until us pakeha came a took it from them. They should be able to speak
ReplyDeletewhy are you assuming that it is purley rodney hides fault, many people have influenced this desicion
ReplyDeleteRodney hide as acted on a all men are equal stand, I think that to treat moari different to us all would be a form of rasicm, We may have taken from them but they should be treated as people not a special class.
ReplyDeleteAnd if we are owning their land now they should definately have their say
ReplyDeletecam,
ReplyDeletethat is purley rodney hides fault.
isnt he just doing what he has to do and not wha he wants?
but he should let who ever who is willing to give it a try and not maroi but everyone =)
ReplyDeleteand one quistion that you really have to listen to is what cam said the first one
ReplyDeletedo the public agree?
Rodney hide has made this statment so he must of told his ACT party first so they must of all agreed
ReplyDeleteMoari is a part of parliment too.Its not just Labour,National and many more. But what im asking is why isn't national backing the Maori party up.Arn't they supposed to be paolitical parteners. And once again the public is a big part.
ReplyDeleteSo from what Mr Mailei has said we all seem to be assuming that Rodney Hide has all the power. But he doesn't.Thats the thing all parties I think should have a say.
ReplyDeleteBut the thing about the land is...
ReplyDeleteFair enough. The Moari party has a big say to. But why does Mr Hide want the Moari party to be excluded from the SUPER council
Yes I agree with Anthony but don't you think the public should have a say with a vote or somethng. Also this could start protests
ReplyDeleteIt is a good point. But did you consider maybe that the votes could cause vandilism and riots.
ReplyDeleteyes anthony i agree but we could have police there to control the protest if there was one so it would be safe but i do think that the mouri really need to express there opinions but they cant because they have been sort of excluded and i think that everybody from parliment needs to help get mouri to get what they want because they are the ones who owned all the land before we came.
ReplyDeleteyes thomas i see your point but we took over their land so dont you think they should have a say in the dissision
ReplyDeleteEven though I am against it do the Maori deserve to have a say?
ReplyDeletejack everybody is equal so they should have a say
ReplyDeletecam I see your point but it is their land and they should have a say
ReplyDeleteaaron I agree with what your sayoing but we should also have a fair say
ReplyDeleteI agree with what andrew is saying
ReplyDeleteIF Auckland becomes a supercity, which a lot of people don't want, Maori should get the right to speak. Maori should not be considerd as lower life people.
ReplyDeletei think the main issus are that rodney hide is trying to exclude the mori out but the point is everybody who lives in new zealand are new zealanders and they all have the rigt to be included
ReplyDeleteAll parties in parliment should have a say in whatevers happening. If we let the Maori have a say but no-one else that would be unfair
ReplyDeletefrase not are people that live in New Zealand arnt New Zealanders they have to be spiecaly introjuiced to the country
ReplyDeleteauckland is a city for everybody, it is made up of alot of diffrent ethnic groups so why should one cultral group be more improtant than the rest?
ReplyDeletecameron if you live in new zealand you are a new zealander.
ReplyDeletesir history tells us the maoris challanged maororis, the europeins challanged the maoris and now were seeing the asians challanging the europeins so whoes to say the europeins shouldnt have their own seats.
ReplyDeleteMaori have just as much writes to speak for themselves as any other people because of the ttreaty of waitangi we have to voice maoris opinion.
ReplyDeleteI reccon Rodney Hide has said the right thing about including Moari's. I reccon they should be included because most Moari's in my view are not that educated and when they don't have enough money they start hurting people and stealing money and all types of things.
ReplyDeleteSamuel Smith I understand what you are saying but have thinked that it would not be fair for other groups.
ReplyDeleteI get your point Zachary that but dop think Moaris will make right decissions if they get the right.
ReplyDeletei don't think rodney hide is trying to exclude maori but i think he thinks that maori should have to run just like anyone else and shouldn't get special seats.
ReplyDeleteanubhav i am saying that rodney hide is saying that he thinks maoris should have to run for seats instead of getting special seats for doing nothing
ReplyDeletei think that it maoris should have the right to be part of the super city because of the treaty of waitay also the maoris are the first people here
ReplyDeletedon't you think it is unfair because some Maori's don't work and get the money and don't need to pay taxes. i think it is unfair for use, we have to work.
ReplyDeleteaunahav do you mean that all maoris are stupid and steal and are poor. i think not all moaris are like that because our neighboor is a moari and they are not stupid, the don't steal.
ReplyDeleteMaori should have their say beacause, who signed the Treaty of Waitangi so that we could have some of their land? The Maori. If let us own it they should voice their opinions
ReplyDeleteGentlemen, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with eachother and ensuring that best practice is met. I am very pleased with the way you all have encompass the technique of socratic questioning. Let's remember that there are different forms of questioning for different purposes. I now close this blogg. See you on the next post!
ReplyDeleteI think that its very stupid to have a man against one of new zealands main cultures in goverment
ReplyDeletetre i see your point but you seem to be assuming and saying htat Rodney Hide is a stupid man. Could you explain that in depth?
ReplyDeleteI think this is unfair because maori is kind of related to auckland and rodney hide is saying "no you can't demand seats for the new super city council" so im am basicly saying why is he not letting maori have seats in this council? why is he not letting a very similar coulture have seats with something they have done a lot together on?
ReplyDeletewhy let him out if he almost terrorised the country. also why let him out when he already has a life sentance
ReplyDeleteSir with the maori having site on the counil. I think they suold be treated the sames as every body else. Just because the maori were the founders on this country that dosent mean they can just slide in to the char like they are the king!
ReplyDeleteTre
ReplyDeleteIm with you with your piont about maori being one of the maen cultures in New Zealand, but could you plz explain your point about Rodney Hyde being a stupid man.
