"Life Sentence"

The Scottish goverment released a prisoner responsible for a terrorist attack last week. This decision has been riduculed by other goverments around the world and most of all the victim's famalies.

The sentence was for life, but the Scottished granted a compassionate release as the prisoner was diagnosed with cancer and only had 3 months to live.

Question 1: Do you believe in the actions of the Scottish? And if so, Why or Why not?

Question 2: What are the issues involved in this story?

  2. I don't believe in the scottishes actions because he could very well commit more crimes not fearing imprisonment because he knows he is to die

    ReplyDelete
  3. No because he could kill more people and the whole city!

    ReplyDelete
  4. the scottish sentenced a terrorist to life imprisonment for a relativly small crime compared to some serial killers, yet he got such a long sentence. This is a sign showing that justice is sometimes wierd

    ReplyDelete
  5. I agry with you ethan but he does only have a little while to live and he could be to sick to do anything else

    ReplyDelete
  6. Thats true sean but did you consider him planting a bomb and blow up the whole city?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I also say that if he does not get put into jail he will not then learn is lesson and he could possibly try to attemp another crime like this.

    ReplyDelete
  8. That is what I mean he should of been put in jail and because that has hapened he could possibly attemp the same crime again our maybe even a different one.

    ReplyDelete
  9. why are you assuming that he will continue his acts of violence? Many people faced with death will say thier last goodbyes to friends and family

    ReplyDelete
  10. This man is human too, why would he kill the people that let him live his last 3 months as a free man, won't you feel grateful too. don't bite the mouth that feeds you is great for what I am Saying

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree with you william but Are you assuming that he wont cause anymore crimes because he got let out of prison

    ReplyDelete
  12. im with sean becuase if he doesnt he could do this right away again and probly get away with it because they went with the other point in the fist place

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think the scottish should have kept the prisoner for atleast 1 more month because he mite not see any point of life and mite go and commit another crime

    ReplyDelete
  14. this must affect the choices of some traveleres and they mite spread this story around the world and scottland mite end up with no travelers

    ReplyDelete
  15. have you considered that the scottish did this to escape the ridicule they are getting

    ReplyDelete
  16. and if this man was to commit another crime then he will be remembered as the most hated and fierce guy that ever lived

so if he did i think all families will be warned

    ReplyDelete
  17. Why are you assuming that because of this incident Scotland will lose thier tourists, cameron? Look at new york after the twin towers attack, it is still a tourist hotspot

    ReplyDelete
  18. I thinik that this is stupid because a life sentence is a life sentence so it is stupid

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes Ethan I am assuming that he won't commit any more crimes like this

    ReplyDelete
  20. no but it mite be the most safest option

some questions i want answered are

    why didi he do it
    will he do it again
    does anyone help him
has there been any history of this man
does the public know the risks ofmletting him out

    ReplyDelete
  21. but young people mite follow this mans actions

but im only saying they will lose some torists if the crime will continue

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why are you assuming that letting him go is stupid? Would you want to be let free if you know that you are going to die in jail?

    ReplyDelete
  23. jimmy i see you thaughts but what do u mean it is stupid

    ReplyDelete
  24. terrorists use violence to fight for what they believe in. This man could be fighting for a very good cause.

    ReplyDelete
  25. No I thought that it was a really bad decision by the scottish goverment to release the terrorist. I think it was a bad idea since he only had three months to live he might think to sucide and kill himself and kill allot of people by doing attcks. Terrorist are always to risk their lives anytime imagine what he would do when when he knew that he had only three months to live. He wouldn't even be scared and probably do something violent.

    ReplyDelete
  26. no i don't agree because since he was in prison he might have only just done this act to get out and 3 months later he might kill himself or something

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sorry sir but I was in the wrong gmail account that's why the name ajit came when I typed something. I get your point cameron but do you think a terrorist would care to be the most hated person. I guy who is prepare to kill himself anytime any day, would not care in my view.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i mean its like say someone had a t.o.c but didn't want to do it then hed say he felt sick, the teacher would say go to the bathroom and when he comes back he say I through up and then was sent home (in other words he might be lieing)

    ReplyDelete
  29. This is just Crazy. I see their point in doing it but he's a TERRORIST!!!!!!! Families have been destroyed and 100's of lives lost and they let him go??!! And he got welcomed back like a HERO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I get your point William about him being sad that he is going to die in jail but I do not think a terrorist would care if he dies. Why would people release a dangerous guy like this and make the world a unsafe enviroment. And by the way. William you should think about how dangerous it would be if the scottish goverment release this type of terrorist.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I know he had cancer. Tough luck. He should have died in jail

    ReplyDelete
  32. i disagree Sam even terrorists have feelings of gratefulness. He might have only done a small crime

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree it might be dangerous but look at the ridicule scotlands getting
this may just be scotland trying to get themsleves looked upon in a better light

    ReplyDelete
  34. William you say that he might of onlt done one small crime yet he got a life sentance

    ReplyDelete
  35. I get your point Nick but this is much more than a T.O.C. This is about people in risk of there lives. You could get a T.O.C anytime but I don't think you could harm someone with a T.O.C , but a terrorist could kill hundreds of people just in one go.

    ReplyDelete
  36. They shouldn't be looked at in a better light letting a terrorist out of jail. That is an bad decision on their part

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sir in question 1 I think the scottish have made a terrible mistake because if he commited another crime while free everyone would critisize the scottish justice system meanwhile other terrorists would think that would be a good time to attack becasue of a weak justice system

    ReplyDelete
  38. And some of the issues are that tons families have been torn apart and this man is welcomed(!) back. Imagine how the families would feel.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes but what a bout the terrorists family?
Also imagine if you were in his shoes and you had cancer, I think you would want to spend it with you family, wouldn't you?

    ReplyDelete
  40. i know anabhav but i am just using this as an example

    ReplyDelete
  41. Gentlemen, great work. In regards to what the released prisoner did; He placed a bomb on a plane and the rest is history. Just remember to check your spelling before you post.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sir did he put the bomb on the plane after he got released?

    ReplyDelete
  43. so yeah anabhav he could be lieing about having cancer and just gettiing out of jail for 3 months

    ReplyDelete
  44. I just found out the number he killed 270 people, this changes my mind completely If this man can kill that many people without shedding a tear of remorse he deserves to die I guess what goes round comes around

    ReplyDelete
  45. Gentlemen, from tomorrow onwards I will be deleting comments from the post which I feel are not up to standard. Don't take this to offence; it is just a means for us to learn from our mistakes. This will mean that all of you will need to ensure that spelling, grammar and vocabulary are adhered to.

    ReplyDelete
  46. No he didn't lie nick, He had to have tests run on him so that he could be properly diagonsed

    ReplyDelete
  47. I dis agree with you Anubhav about the terrorist not being afraid to die, If he wasn't afraid to die he would be on the same plane as the bomb to ensure the plan works

    ReplyDelete
  48. The man is now in his own country so I don't think he will bomb his own country. This adds to the stereotyped opinion that all terrorists come from the middle east

    ReplyDelete
  49. This comment is directed at those charlmers students that attended chapel last night. The Rev. David Smith preached the message that anger is within all people, it is how we deal with it which is the challenge. William, you pull out an important point about terrorists, however, why is it that most of them come from that area?

    ReplyDelete
  50. if the man killed 270 people why should he get released? i know that the terroit got only 3 months to live but that doesn't work. i some place if you kill 1 person you get shot. getting the people in prision for a life sentance was such a little punishment, what if he goes a plane and crash somewhere to kill people because he only has 3 months to live

    ReplyDelete
  51. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

    ReplyDelete
  52. many people died and a life sentance is very small because the statistics show that every 11 days is equal to one person dead

    ReplyDelete
  53. gen,can you tell me why you think that?

    ReplyDelete
  54. nick, why would he lie about having cancer and if he did lie they would just arrest him after 4 months and they also would have run tests on him

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think that terrorists come mostly form the middle east because it is a major oil producing place and the people may feel that they are getting a bad bargain

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think he should stay in jail because he could comit more crimes and go on a killing spree without any fear of going to jail since he knows his life is going to end.

    ReplyDelete
  57. See the thing is that a life sentence is a life sentence. Nothing can bring back a persons life. So I think that even if this man has cancer there should be no excuse to let him out.

    ReplyDelete
  58. He could go and kill anyone and die in jail.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I dont think he should be released from a terriost attack even if he had cancer because he killed so many innocent people.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I strongly agree with anthony and samuel because yes he could go around killing anybody now that he is free because he has done it before but in New Zealand or life sentence is only 14 years on non parole but in America and places like that life is life and i think that New Zealand should change our life sentence to life! i hate to see somebody who has killed somebody and get a life sentence and think well in 14 years he could be out on the streets again killing even more people so my question to everybody is....
Do you think that the New Zealand government should change the law and make a life sentence for life???

    ReplyDelete
  61. Sam you seem to be assuming that he doesn't care about death. I don't think that he is going to commit another terrorist attack because it is his last time of his life. But I think that he should still stay in jail.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Anthony you seem to be assuming that a terroist wont commit another attack on a group of inocent people do i understand you correctly?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anthony G II see your point but when its a life sentence dosent that mean that they go to jail for life

    ReplyDelete
  64. Bailey in answer to your question yes life means life so thats why i think that New Zealand should change there life sentence to life.

    ReplyDelete
  65. But the problem with the life sentence is that we need more jails to fit the criminals being put in life imprisonment

    ReplyDelete
  66. I agree with Williams idea. Do you think that he would care if he died in jail.If he was that depressed to commit and terrorist attack he mustn't have thought that he wasn't going to get caught?

    ReplyDelete
  67. I didn't say that he doesn't want to Aaron. I said that he probably wouldn't because of his life span. He has 4 months to live.I think he would use that time to do other things apart from attacks.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yes I agree but he still might do it because he has only got that little bit of time left for him to live so mabye that is his way of saying godbye to te world.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Once again I agree with Aaron's question. Whats the use in having a life sentence when it isn't life sentence. It just gives them an opportunity to kill more innocent people.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes that is a good point Anthony but in my question do you think that New Zealand should raise there life sentence to life?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Do you think that he would really do that? that is the question.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Well I think it is a posibility what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  73. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I get your point Anthony G. about having a life sentence when it isn't a life sentence, By the way how do you know that he is going to kill more innocent people? So Anthony are you assuming that the the terrorist is going to kill more people?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Where did you come up of the idea of the terrorist lieing about having cancer? I don't think the Scottish goverment would just Believe him and let him free I think they would test him so they know.

    ReplyDelete
  76. i think they should run it again and put him in jail because what he had done

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think they should keep him in jail as he did commit the crime and has to do the time. Also have they run any tests to prove his disease and if so can a doctor confirm he only has 3 months to live?

    ReplyDelete
  78. i think he got his just deserves getting cancer as he killed so many people but i dont believe he should be treated like a king in his city/country as he has been.

    ReplyDelete
  79. our life is only 18 years in jail and in some other countries a life sentence is just that a life sentence,

    ReplyDelete
  80. I think that even if he does have the disease he should stay in jail because he did the crime and he should thought how this could affect him before doing it, so it is really his oun recless decision for doing it in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  81. if he killed 270 people then would'nt thoses peoples lifes be given for nothing if he dosen't do the whole of his time?

    ReplyDelete
  82. when you think about it there are many people that he sickness in jail so why is this man any different than any one else in jail and some of the people that are sick in jail have only done a fraction of what he did killing around 270 people in his attack.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Maybe the people in his country supported his idea, if he is being treated like a hero and he can't leave the country then why would he blow it, by bombing his own country.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Anuhbav, are you assuming that many terrorist families are poor?

    ReplyDelete
  85. his idea was kind of silly but do you class mates agree that he was thinking that he had no point of loife because e was going to die anyway

    ReplyDelete
  86. his thought of going and killing a traveler was bad and he could of gone to the hospital for help with his problem and he could of had better chances of a longer life

    ReplyDelete
  87. taking the story from a travelers view I would take pretection and be carful from where I go and who im around

    ReplyDelete
  88. No Cameron his cancer was uncurable,if it was curable he wouldn't have been his set free

    ReplyDelete
  89. boys I have got some questions about this terrible attact

    why did he do it
    will anyone copy him
    will he do it again
how or did anyone support him
how agrees that he should still be in jail

    ReplyDelete
  90. andrew because in many countries such as USA and China if you kill 1 person you get shot this terrorist killed 270 people! you won't be happy if for instance your parents are killed by the terroist. you would want to kill them as well

    ReplyDelete
  91. he shouldn't of been let out by no brains because if you do the crime you have to pay the time

    ReplyDelete
  92. they should of killed him because he disereves it you can't let someone go because they are going to die that's basicly ilegal

    ReplyDelete
  93. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

    ReplyDelete
  94. i mean it is stupid because if he has a life sentence he should be having it for life

    ReplyDelete
  95. he showed no compassion for the people he killed so why should people show compassion for him. He should suffer the consequences for the actions he took. Also as an american i am more offended by his actions.

    ReplyDelete
  96. also if it's a life sentence he should be in there for life and his life ends in three months because of his cancer.

    ReplyDelete
  97. other issues are that he is being let out to spend his last days with his family but he killed the family members of a lot of other families and those people don't get to spend there last days with family.

    ReplyDelete
  98. but why did they let him out without having a proper vote or a debate but they didnt so they just let him free to cause more harm

    ReplyDelete
  99. I think the law is wrong and a life sentance should meana LIFE SENTANCE not for a couple of years

    ReplyDelete
  100. I think some issues is that this will affect scootland hugly and it will take some of the population with this guy on the loose.

One more was I think the prison need to think deaper in thier disision of letting people out that have a very bad history

    ReplyDelete
